Kendra, Ventura County: testing Wiki formatting. Hit the edit tab and you can type / paste your ideas under each of these questions / topics just like I am doing now. This works just like WORD however, formatting special font size / bold, etc...does not work similarly. Use spacing to create your "flow". Please keep it short and sweet!. Go below to hit save. Thank you!. (ps...please do not edit anyone else's suggestions, this is an open forum and all ideas are welcome)

Kendra Gonzales (Ventura): increase registration by one half by doing a huge push via tabling, community events, campus presence, social networking, (Facebook, Twitter, Blogging, etc.) expanding our main stream media list and presence, improving our website, using more video, more "fun" local events...get liberals in a room, with their guard down, having fun...get them to re-register right there and then. How many of us carry around registration forms with us everywhere we go?

Kendra Gonzales (Ventura) No, high-profile campaigns give us alot more access to a larger audience such as the Sample Ballot, more media coverage...including "protest" when we are not "allowed" into debates. I consider Executive Office (Governor, etc)  campaigns as important as local seats. We simply need to be more strategic on how to support and organize both. Fundraise first quarter 2011, and we're on our way!

Given the passage of Prop 14, what should our strategy be relating to the new format primary?

Kendra Gonzales: agreed with Marnie, however locals need to work on identifying "winnable seats" locally also like water boards, school districts, city councils and so forth.

Kendra Gonzales: agree to involvement in the court case, but also need to keep our registration numbers growing regardless. This is our fall-back to ballot status and should be a constant part of our focus. The only positive of Prop 14 is that some voters will feel more comfortable in re-registering as Green now. If Prop 14 is not defeated, it will be our job to convince new Greens to maintain their registration with us regardless of who moves on to the General Election. And, we have to consider the possibility that a Green COULD advance to the General Election.

Kendra Gonzales: Yes, and we should consider raising money for it. This might be the one thing that would convince a potential doner to give us money at all, or more. However, I'm uncertain of the legalites of it all. We need to keep in contact with Gautham Dutta, the attorney on this case.

Should GPCA have closer ties with the progressive caucus of the california democratic party?
+
Kendra Gonzales: Yes. That would be like asking local county Greens if they want to continue to be a member of GPCA. I'd imagine a few would say no!. Some locals (for lack of a better term) have indicated they think the State Party is completely dyfunctional. So, GPCA to GPUS is a mirror of County Green to GPCA. We need to remain as united as possible within our Decentralization values. There are much worse "issues" out in world (like climate change) that we need to deal with. So we've got to figure out how to work through our internal crap without getting stuck. I highly recommend www.cnvc.org (non-violent communications) Simple, and highly effective regardless the situation.

Kendra Gonzales: I think it would be ok to keep in good communication on "issues". I've had many progressive Dems tell me they might not want to re-register Green (more out of fear of vote splitting than anything) but they want us around. We keep them in check, respect our values, they respect that we don't compromise, they just don't think we are "viable" enough.

      • SOME SUGGESTED SPECIFIC TOPICS OF DISCUSSION ***:

SHOULD GPCA'S ELECTORAL FOCUS BE ON LOCALIZED, "NON-PARTISAN" ELECTIONS?.

Marnie Glickman: No.

IF THE FOCUS TO BE ON STATE-WIDE OFFICE, THEN SHOULD GPACA FOCUS ON MOST "WINNABLE SEATS"?

Marnie Glickman: We should focus on great candidates regardless of what kind of seat they run for.

Kendra Gonzales: agreed with Marnie, however locals need to work on identifying "winnable seats" locally also like water boards, school districts, city councils and so forth.

GIVEN THE PASSAGE OF PROP 14, WHAT SHOULD OUR STATEGY BE RELATING TO THE NEW FORMAT PRIMARY?

Marnie Glickman: Defeat open primary in court.

This calls for the good old-fashion get out in to the community as often as we can and in greatly expanding our internet social network presense.

SHOULD GPCA CONTINUE TO BE PART OF THE LAWSUITE AGAINST PROP 14? WILL WE RAISE FUNDS FOR IT?

Marnie Glickman: Why should we raise money for the lawsuit?

Kendra Gonzales: Yes, and we should consider raising money for it. This might be the one thing that would convince a potential doner to give us money at all, or more. However, I'm uncertain of the legalites of it all. We need to keep in contact with Gautham Dutta, the attorney on this case. I've talked with him at length as well as other Greens.

SHOULD GPCA CONTINUE TO BE A MEMBER OF GPUS?

SHOULD GPCA HAVE CLOSER TIES WITH THE PROGRESSIVE CAUCUS OF THE DEMOCRACTIC PARTY?
